An interview can either make or break you. How do you sell yourself and make yourself stand out from the rest of the applicants applying for that one position?
The first thing that one needs to do is to know how to sell themselves. The only way that one can fully achieve this is to know their own strengths and weaknesses. What qualities stand out about you? These could range from good interpersonal skills, great communication skills or being fluent in multiple languages. All these skills that one may have may vary. However, it is important to ensure that all these skills that one poses should be transferable and applicable to the skills required for that particular position.
Selling yourself means making yourself stand out like a polka dot . Successfully achieving this will definitely require preparation. You should make a 30 second commercial about themselves before they walk into any kind of interview. This ‘commercial’ will usually consist of ones best qualities and what they can bring to the company in a summarized but effective manner. This commercial should be convincing yet realistic. It is important not to LIE about any kind of skills that you don’t have. Be honest .
Cliché but true, first impressions are everything! The first 5 minutes of that interview could be the deciding factor on whether one gets hired or not. More so, your demeanor and mannerisms will play a part on how one sells themselves. It is important to be aware of ones facials, attire and mannerisms during an interview.
The ultimate goal in an interview is to show your potential employers that you are going to be an asset to the company and that you are different from the rest!

It’s summer time! One of the most anticipated seasons of the year. For most
people summer time means vacations, going to the beach and having numerous
barbecues. However, there are a number of people who need jobs during the summer.
This is especially true for college and high school students. Finding a job
just for the summer can be a very daunting and frustrating process. One needs to
plan way in advance and start job searching as early as possible. Having a job
in the summer can be a very advantageous opportunity. Not only does an
individual have some extra money coming in, but idleness is eliminated. More so,
whatever job one is doing during the summer can be a resume builder. Having a
job in the summer can reflect upon an individual’s character. It can show how
proactive an individual is. Despite all the positives about having a summer job
there are disadvantages that come with finding a summer job. One of the most
obvious is the fun that is forgone in place of working. Since the summer is such
an anticipated season, most individuals want to make the most out of it. Another
disadvantage about finding a job in the summer is that the process may be a
little bit harder. Some companies may not be too keen on hiring individuals on a
temporary basis. This is why for other people doing internships is a more viable
thing to do. Internships primarily serve to give students experience in their
intended field of interest. The most important thing to note about internships
is that most of them are unpaid. This reality may not sit well with some
students because they need to the money. It is a tough call. Would you rather
work as a cashier at McDonalds for 3 months and earn money or would you rather
intern at your dream company and gain valuable experience that will help you
make wiser decisions pertaining to your career. Clearly, there are both
disadvantages and advantages when it comes to finding a job in the summer.
