College is a good way to prepare for the job market. However, some people think of college as unnecessary since it’s just more schoolwork, when they can just get a job right after high school. But people who are in college will benefit from the academic experience. So just how does going to college prepare one for the job market?
Going to college helps with my communication skills. It teaches how to get messages across in a successful way. Having communication skills is a key to landing a job. If the company one works for is to be more effective, then communication is a necessary requirement. In addition, taking a speech class in college could improve one’s public speaking since at a job, you will be able to effectively listen to the employer’s job duties, present a project in a clear voice in front of co-workers and share any information with colleagues given to you by an employer.
Another way college can prepare you for the job market is by doing group work. Numerous group work projects in college can teach you how to be an asset to the group setting. One of the most important things employers look for is people who are team players. This is important because in the company the actions of one affects all at the company. An employer can’t afford to hire someone who is not able to get a long with others and is not a team player.
Another way going to college prepares one for the job market is by emphasizing writing skills. With writing skills improved from going to college, it can help in the job market when writing a cover letter or doing a resume. By knowing what transferable skills to put in my resume when applying for a specific job, and using proper grammar and spelling, an employer will most likely choose me for an interview over someone with a resume or cover letter with poor grammar and spelling. Many employers just throw away resumes that have avoidable errors such as the spelling of the company the person is applying to and using slang terms.
The job market is getting more competitive, especially in these tough economic times. More companies are looking for people with higher education. But by using one’s overall experience in college, the chances of landing a job will definitely increase.

So far during my internship at Millennium Personnel Corp. I have learned many things. New things are sometimes perceived to be challenging in a new job environment. However, given the scope of my experience here at Millennium Personnel Corp, I now have much more confidence to pursue my career. I feel much more comfortable doing things than when I first started. For example, I feel more comfortable screening calls since I now know what to say when a person calls in asking about employment.
The office manager Stephanie and Lainie are very helpful, friendly and precise on what they expect from me. The other interns at the office are very helpful also. The atmosphere of the office is peaceful, not hectic. I was excited to help with accounts payable and accounts receivable on QuickBooks since my major is accounting. I saw how to input their clients’ information and how to reconcile both accounts. I would love to have as much experience with QuickBooks as possible.
I know that by the end of my internship at Millennium Personnel I will have the experience and interview skills that I previously lacked to land a job. My overall experience doing this internship so far is positive. I’ve learned in life that you have to crawl before you can walk in order to get your goals accomplished. Too many people have a sense of entitlement that prevents them from doing what it takes to get to where they want to be in life. With the right attitude and enthusiasm I can achieve my goals.

Doing internship is a great way to get started
I have been an intern here at Millennium Personnel for a couple of days now. So far it has been a great experience for me, I thought I knew how things run in the office, but I had no idea it was that complicated. Everyone at Millennium Personnel is helping me with how things are done in the office and it’s been really helpful learning about how to do interviewing and answering phone calls. The Manager is also teaching me how to work with excel and quick books, a little bit about payroll and everything else.
I have to say I’m really happy to be doing this internship with millennium personnel. I have been given the opportunity to learn how thing get done in the office everyone here is very friendly and really helpful and I’m hoping everything I learn here I can take it with me and apply it to a future job, doing and inter is a great way to get started before you go and apply for and office position you get to learn how things get done most company now are looking for people with office experience now if you say you have done inter for a company before your most likely to get the job then someone else you doesn’t have and experience at all if anyone out there is looking to lean an office position my best bet is to find a place where you can do for few days of internship it one way to learn about office works and how it runs and what you’ll need?
