How to become a “rainmaker” in YOUR business…
A rainmaker is someone who brings in big business. A rainmaker is the “star player” of his or her company. He or she makes the most sales and is the one bringing in new business for the firm. A lot of people dream of being a rainmaker, but it’s easier said than done. If being a rainmaker was easy, every company big or small would have one in their organization. That being said, becoming a rainmaker is more likely if one is willing to take certain steps.
One thing that all “rainmakers” have in common is confidence. If you are not secure in your abilities AND products/services, the client will recognize this and will have doubts about doing business with you. By being confident in front of the client, people may feel comfortable about doing business with you because of the way you present yourself. The same self-assuredness is needed when dealing with your boss. For example, if you have an idea that can bring major business to your company, you must have enough confidence to approach your boss and tell him or her. Your boss may or may not like the idea, but you will never know if you don’t try. And this type of assertive and creative thinking can go a long way in terms of boosting your standing in the company.
Another approach of a rainmaker is to view everyone they meet a potential client. A rainmaker looks at everyone and every circumstance as a lead to potential business. It can be a friend who works at the bank, current clients who have family members with their own businesses or even people who live in their neighborhood. This may lead to big business financially. You never know what kind of connections people have, unless you ask.
Also, making a lasting impression through one’s appearance is essential. Being a rainmaker means dressing sharply at all times, especially when meeting clients. You never want show up to potential clients dressed in jeans or shorts. A possible client might not want to do business with you solely based on your attire. Your first impression is usually your best impression. That being said you want to look your best when meeting your clients and potential clients.
If you are not becoming a rainmaker as fast as you would like, just remember that it takes time to build your reputation. Some people become rainmakers faster than others. There is no timetable on you fast one can become a rainmaker. If you are serious about becoming a rainmaker then don’t quit when you hit a road bump along the way. Stay committed to yourself and your abilities.
